About Us
The J.P. Cooke Company was founded in 1887 when two brothers, James and John Patrick Cooke decided to leave a similar company in Chicago where they learned their trade.  They decided to move to Omaha, NE because Omaha was though to become the next "Chicago" of the Midwest with both the Union Pacific Railroad and the meat packing industry taking off.

James Cooke was quite an inventor and held many patents.  His great fortune happened in the 1890's when he successfully obtained a patent on the Cooke Time Stamp.

The Cooke Time Stamp is a round rubber stamp which shows the time and date that can be changed manually.  Every special delivery piece of mail in the United States was required to have this stamp.  After obtaining a patent James created the Cooke Time Stamp Company.
